Scores of mourners gathered at St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Alexandra, north of Johannesburg, to bid farewell to renowned actor Sello Motloung.

This to offer support and condolences to the Motloung family. The actor died on Sunday last week after a short illness at the age of 54.

He had a distinguished career spanning more than 20 years in TV, film and theatre. He was best known for his leading role as Sajene Kokobela in a Sesotho telenovela “Nna Sajene Kokobela” on SABC 2 in 2001. He starred in multiple productions and the most recent, SABC3’s The Estate.

The film and television industry has been left shattered after the passing of a number of illustrious actors and actresses recently. The grounds of St. Hubert’s Catholic Church in Alexandra were filled to capacity.

His remains have been laid to rest at the Westpark Cemetery in Johannesburg. Mourners in attendance have described the passing of Motloung as a huge loss to the film and television industry in South Africa.

“Him and his wife, Nthabiseng were always busy helping a lot of people here at church. As for me, they were always there for me, they were always calling me to check up on me. So, we have really lost big time,” says friend Thandiwe Makhubela.

Makhubele says, Motloung will be remembered for his kind and light-hearted nature.

“I am going to remember him for his jokes and his smile. He was also down to earth.”

She sent her last words of condolences to the wife and the children of Motloung.

“I cannot say be strong to them, because I am not strong myself. It’s very tough. What I can say is that we will be there for each other as a family.”

Motloung was loved by the masses. Family and friends say they will remember him for his kindness.

Motloung is survived by his wife and three children.
