Mourners have gathered at Qamata Great Place near Cofimvaba in the Eastern Cape to bid farewell to Chief Ngangomhlaba Matanzima.

He passed away at his home late last month following a lung-related illness. He was the Chairperson of the Moral Regeneration Movement at the time of his death.

Matanzima held various leadership positions both in the former Transkei and democratic South Africa.

The secretary of the Congress of Traditional Leaders of South Africa (Contralesa), Zolani Mkhiva says he was a servant of the people.

“INkosi Ngangomhlaba was the servant of the people first and foremost and therefore in order to preserve his legacy, we will ensure that the institution of traditional leadership does what it is expected to do to articulate the aspirations of the downtrodden people, those that are in the margins of society and ensure that the center of the nation also depends because it is anchored by those who are in the margins,” says Mkhiva.
