The Mpumalanga Department of Education has honoured educators across the province who have dedicated their lives to enriching society with their knowledge, skills and values.

The department held the 23rd annual National Teaching Awards to honour the work of the men and women in the classroom.

The event was held with teachers from across the province in Skukuza, at the Kruger National Park.

Speaking during the event, the Provincial Head of Department Lucy Moyane says the event seeks to celebrate the patriotism of the men and women in changing society.

“We appreciate teachers that go an extra mile so that our children become better people and they become better contributors to South Africa and the world as a whole.”

She adds that while the department is aware that educators work under very difficult circumstances and often face shortages in resources and serve overcrowded classrooms, teachers have to be commended for showing resilience.
