Some residents in Kimberley in the Northern Cape say they are feeling the pinch of unemployment.

This as the province recorded an increase in the unemployment rate in the second quarter of the year.

Some Kimberley youth say numerous government led employment programs have not saved them from idling.

Spotlight on SA’s unemployment crisis:

The province recorded a 3.7% increase from 28% in quarter one to 32% in the second quarter.

One of the residents had this to say.

“Just thinking about it, it makes me emotional, it’s a lot. We’ve been trying. We’ve been to school and to colleges. We are done with basically certain qualifications, that can I have a summary into that, but nothing has been done. Sometimes I feel poor because of I am the only child that can lift the situation at home. So my parents look up to me, but sometimes it’s very sad for me. I think the government, the intervention that they have been using to eradicate unemployment; it’s clearly not working, because it increases instead of to decrease.”
