The case of the 12 accused in the Nelson Mandela fraud trial has been adjourned to the 26th of this month in the Bhisho High Court, Eastern Cape.

It was postponed today after one of the accused, Phumlani Mkolo, the former ANC chairperson in the Dr. WB Rubusana region, said he had no funds to pay his legal team.

The case relates to the alleged misappropriation of funds that were meant for the memorial service of the late statesman in 2013.

The National Prosecuting Authority’s regional spokesperson, Luxolo Tyali, says they opposed the postponement.

“The prosecution did oppose the postponement, and the judge noted that the prosecution’s opposition was based on reasonable grounds but granted the postponement so that Mr. Mkolo can be able to raise funds and pay his legal team.”
