Northern Cape man gets 24-years for rape of a minor

A 47-year-old Northern Cape man, who was found guilty of statutory rape, grooming a minor and child pornography, has been sentenced to 24-years behind bars by the Port Nolloth Magistrate’s Court.

The man, who was the neighbour of the minor, had sex with the 13-year-old girl, recorded himself and also exposed her to pornography.

The recorded sex video of the girl with the perpetrator was discovered on her phone by her father who laid a charge with the police.

Provincial police spokesperson, Sergio Kock elaborates, “On October 27, the father of the victim found a video on his 13-year-old daughter’s cellphone of her having sex with the 47-year-old neighbour and laid a formal charge with police. The perpetrator was immediately arrested in Port Nolloth and sentenced on July 12 as follows; Count one: statutory rape, Six years imprisonment; Count two: exposing a child to pornography, six years imprisonment; Count three, grooming of a child, six years imprisonment; Count four: using a child for pornography, six years imprisonment. Counts two to four will run concurrently, hence the accused will effectively serve a 12-year prison sentence for the aforementioned crimes.”
