Osaka beats Stephens in Indian Wells Open

Japanese tennis star, Naomi Osaka, won the battle of the Grand Slam champions at the Indian Wells Open in California.

The two-time Major winner beat former US Open champion, American Sloane Stephens, 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the event. It was Osaka’s first victory over Stephens in three outings.

In the men’s draw, Fabio Fognini made some tennis history in the first round. His three-set victory over Spain’s Pablo Andujar gave him the most wins on the ATP Tour by an Italian.

The sport’s self-styled bad boy, Nick Kyrgios of Australia and will next face another Argentine, Federico Delbonis, for a place in the third round.
