The Patriotic Alliance (PA)’s deputy president, Kenny Kunene says the party will be withdrawing its case against former Miss SA contestant Chidimma Adetshina following her withdrawal from the pageant.

Earlier today, the PA instituted urgent legal action to interdict Adetshina from participating in the Miss SA pageant set to take place on Saturday.

The Department of Home Affairs yesterday said it found prima facie evidence of fraud and identity theft allegedly committed by Adetshina’s mother after it launched an investigation into her citizenship.

Kunene has welcomed the withdrawal.

“She withdrew after realizing that the Patriotic Alliance is going to the courts to interdict her from participating and she knew that we were going to win that case. So, we are going to withdraw the matter because her withdrawal is exactly what we were asking the court to give us.”

Meanwhile, Build One South Africa’s leader, Mmusi Maimane has expressed sympathy for the former Miss SA contestant while calling for better systems within the Home Affairs Department.

“I’ve made the point to say that we need to move towards digitizing the system so as to eliminate any prospect of fraud. I feel completely sorry for this young woman and what she’s been put through with some of the vitriolic attacks and some of the xenophobic attacks that have been put forward,” adds Maimane.

“And I think it is sad that she had to withdraw and we’ve brought it up to this point. What we’ve got to figure out as SA is how do we effect our Home Affairs’ system, how do we ensure that any citizen who is here is done so legally?” he says.
