Free State premier, MaQueen Letsoha-Mathae has confirmed that the health department is investigating the passing on of a patient at Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli hospital in QwaQwa allegedly due to a power outage.

Letsoha-Mathae says the investigation will establish whether the power outage was the cause of death. 58-year old Dibakiso Tshabalala reportedly died at the hospital earlier this week.

The premier says they owe the family an explanation about what happened.

“Apparently its like they couldn’t discuss in detail. The report that I also got is that they felt that from their side as well they’ll have to take the legal route. But we’ve got the responsibility as government in making sure that we get deeper into this matter get the feedback and definitely well have to go and meet the family. How sad they are but at the end of the day we will have to communicate the outcomes of our investigations.”

Manapo Hospital Death | Family unhappy with answers from hospital:

The family of the 58-year-old woman says it is disappointed at how authorities handled the matter. The family says it first heard of the allegations that Dibakiso Tshabalala died due to a power cut on social media.

Her son Dumisane Tshabalala adds that officials from the department came to their house but did not explain anything, which left them with more questions than answers.

“I’m only hearing from some people in the media that some people came to the family to give us sympathy, the social support. But those guys they didn’t even give us that social support. They went at home and we were not there, we told them to wait for us and the said part they left us within their facility. We were busy with the papers to take the deceased to our mortuary but they had the audacity to leave us there.”
