The SA National Council for the Blind has expressed deep concern over reports of extortion against people with disabilities in the Eastern Cape.

People living with disabilities in Mthatha have become the latest targets of alleged extortion in exchange for protection in the province.

National Council for the Blind Executive Director Lewis Nzimande says this is very worrying.

“The matter has been discussed for quite some time and the police station commander knew about it. They have been all over the show with these members of ours, been trying to get them some help and help has not been forthcoming. The last instance now is that they are desperate for someone to at least take up the matter.”
