Police search for mother of newborn baby boy found washed up at Gqeberha beach

Police in Gqeberha, in the Eastern Cape, are tracing the whereabouts of a woman whose newborn baby’s body was found washed ashore on Brighton Beach on Friday.

Police Spokesperson, Priscilla Naidu says people cleaning the beach noticed a colourful blanket washed up on the beach. On further inspection, it was discovered the body of a newborn baby boy.

A black refuse bag containing more blankets and a placenta also washed up with the baby. Police have opened an inquest docket.

They have requested anyone with information to contact SAPS Mount Road detectives on 041 3946523/6316, Crime Stop 08600 10111 or the nearest police station.
