Newly appointed Police Minister Senzo Mchunu has assured the South African public that the SAPS will prioritise advanced technology and stations will become well-resourced to better fight crime in the country.

Mchunu outlined the priorities of the Ministry of Police in the 7th administration.

He says Gauteng as well as both the Eastern and Western Capes have been identified as crime hotspots.

“We are committed to ensuring that police stations are well-resourced. We have to provide the necessary tools and vehicles to serve our communities effectively.”

Mchunu walked into the GCIS offices with sadness as he was about to address the media.

Mchunu showed concern on the rising crime rate.

Mchunu shared their plan on fighting the crime levels that include rape, GBV incidents and murder.

He emphasised the importance of keeping the country’s police officers safe.

Police officers whether on or off duty are attacked and mostly killed.

Mchunu says attacking the police is as good as an attack against the state.

“Crime levels are on the increase and intolerable. We need to act decisively and bring situation under control. Type of crimes differs from one province to another. We need to look into account as we implement integrated crime interventions.”
