President Cyril Ramaphosa and his entourage have arrived in Katlehong, in Ekurhuleni, to lead the inaugural Vooma Vaccination Weekend Campaign. The aim of the campaign is to mobilise members of the public to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

Sites across the country will be opened from tomorrow to vaccinate as many people as possible.

President Ramaphosa made the announcement during his address to the nation.

Ramaphosa says he and Deputy President David Mabuza will be visiting sites this weekend to promote the vaccination campaign.

We have decided to upscale our vaccination campaign by launching the Vooma Weekend vaccination campaign. The Vooma vaccination campaign will be a countrywide drive, to encourage our people, as many as possible, to get vaccinated.”

The President says government has realised that getting to vaccine sites on weekdays can be difficult for many people.

“Those who cannot make it to vaccinate during the week should take up this opportunity,” the President added.

President’s address to the nation:

The public and private health sectors, organised labour, business and community as well as and faith-based formations are joining forces in the vaccination drive.

Over 8 million South Africans have been fully vaccinated so far. Government’s target is to vaccinate at least 16 million people by the end of the year.
