President Cyril Ramaphosa will chair the first Government of National Unity (GNU) cabinet lekgotla this weekend. The much-anticipated Lekgotla will take place at the Sefako Makgatho Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria from Saturday.

The two-day meeting will be presided over by President Ramaphosa and his deputy Paul Mashatile and will bring together ministers and their deputies, premiers, directors-general and representatives from the South African Local Government Association.

This will be the first time in 30 years that several parties take part in drafting the country’s action programme for the next five years.

The economic trajectory of the country as well as energy security will feature promptly as the lekgotla will also lay the foundation for the State of the Nation Address.

Ministers, Deputy Ministers, and the Director General will craft South Africa’s economic group plan and initiatives to eradicate the triple challenges of poverty, inequality and underdevelopment.

Minister in the Presidency Khumbudzo Ntshavheni says despite this executive drawn from so many parties, they will all champion the policy of the government.
