Residents of Protea Glen in Soweto have been left traumatised following the discovery of human body parts in a house in the area.

The owner of the house says he is finding it difficult to explain to his children what transpired.

A man is in hospital under police guard. He cut himself after locking himself in a room outside the main house when the discovery was made in a refrigerator.

Speaking to the SABC News the homeowner appealed for privacy.

The owner says that he was telephonically alerted to the gruesome discovery by residents.

According to police, the suspect’s partner discovered the body parts after he had left her to go to a supermarket.

The suspect is expected to appear in court on Monday or Tuesday at the Protea Magistrate’s court.

Police forensic experts are trying to determine whether the parts belong to one person or several.

The motive at this stage is still unclear.
