Provincial funeral for Shaleen Surtie-Richards on Sunday

South African actress and entertainer, Shaleen Surtie-Richards will be buried on June the 13 during a provincial funeral.

The announcement was made by the Presidency on Thursday night.

66-year-old Surtie-Richards was found dead at a guest house in Cape Town on Monday.

She was in the city shooting scenes for the series Arendsvlei.

Family spokesperson, Alistair Isobell says: “The family of Shaleen Surtie-Richards wishes to announce that as of Shaleen being an advocate, ambassador and a voice for the coloured community throughout South Africa, The President of South Africa has officially approved and awarded a Provincial send-off (funeral).”

Isobell added: “All national flags are to be flown at half mast in the Western Cape on the day of the funeral in honour and respect of our beloved Shaleen Surtie-Richards. The family would like to take this opportunity to thank our President for this gesture in honouring and recognising the contribution and accomplishments of a creative industry legend.”

The funeral service will take place 2:30 pm at the Durbanville Memorial Park in Cape Town.
