Radio consumption in South Africa continues to thrive with listenership consistently higher than the global average.

That’s according to the Interactive Advertising Bureau (IAB) which says in 2024, not much has changed.

The South Africa’s Industry Measurement Dashboard says radio has always been strong but what is changing is how people access radio.

IAB Board Director Chris Borain, “We no longer really have the traditional handsets or radio sets in people’s houses. People are accessing their favourite radio stations digitally. They listen to streams that they are getting from all sorts of places. Convenience driven by the people experimenting with appointment listening changed during COVID. All of a sudden people weren’t sitting in their cars and listening to the radio station on their way to work or when in taxis. They were now listening when it suits them.”
