African National Congress (ANC) President Cyril Ramaphosa says he is confident about the Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) work despite the leaked ANC candidate list. The governing party’s officials received a call from the IEC after the ANC’s list was leaked.

Ramaphosa says the list was definitely leaked within the IEC after the party met the five PM deadline.

“Somebody at the IEC leaked the list before the IEC could examine it and before they could invoke their own processes to have the list publicly available,” says Ramaphosa.

The ANC has squarely put the blame on its leaked parliamentary list to the IEC. Ramaphosa has however, called for calm.

“We have been in discussions with the IEC, and they have informed us that it was just a glitch, it is not representative of the IEC system, and we continue to have confidence in the IEC’s ability to deal with all matters of elections including the list. They have given us an it explanation and we are satisfied with it. The IEC is dealing with the list being released illegally. They will in their own processes find out who did it, how did it happen and why,” Ramaphosa adds.

Ramaphosa also says those who are found wanting by the party’s integrity commission will be removed from the party’s candidate list.

The party’s NEC tasked the Elections Committee and Integrity Commission to fast track their work on all party’s leaders flagged in wrongdoing and to be removed before the swearing in of members of parliament.
