President Cyril Ramaphosa has met with South African-born American entrepreneur Elon Musk in New York.

This follows Ramphosa’s engagement with US business people and investors in an effort to develop South Africa’s economy.

He’s in the US to attend the UN General Assembly which he is expected to address today.

The meeting with Musk was long in the making and was held behind closed doors with the media barred.

President Ramaphosa later described the meeting with Musk as positive, with further discussion with the social media platform ‘X’ owner likely to emerge in the future.

The discussion was on a day that saw Ramaphosa engage in a round table geared towards critical mineral value chains, recognizing that the country’s mineral deposits could be a key catalyst for inclusive growth.
