President Cyril Ramaphosa is today expected to officiate at the repatriation and restitution homecoming ceremony of South African freedom fighters who passed away in Zambia and Zimbabwe during the Apartheid era.

The remains of 42 liberation heroes and heroines were received on Wednesday, at the Waterkloof Air Force Base in Centurion.

They include former ANC secretary general Duma Nokwe who passed away in Zambia, former PAC leader Letsholo Edwin Makoti, renowned journalist Todd Matshikiza and others.

Defence and Military Veterans Minister Angie Motshekga says this was not a simple task.

“I find it very emotional … [and] also very grateful. It is a happy and a sad moment,” adds Motshekga.
