Bulk water supplier Rand Water says they are exploring alternative forms of water supply including ground water, to ensure that Gauteng’s water table is stable heading into the future.

This emerged during the Gauteng Water Imbizo, in Boksburg, East of Johannesburg.

The Imbizo comes as Gauteng municipalities have been struggling with water challenges for several months, resulting in many households in various communities being often left without access to water on a daily basis.

Chairperson of the Rand Water Board, Ramateu Monyokolo says, “We’re also looking at alternative water supply as we now get our water from Lesotho and other areas. We are now looking at ground water and other water sources so that we are not dependent on Lesotho to provide us with water.

The sustainability of Rand Water is also critical and we look at different areas that will ensure that the organisation is sustainable financially,” adds Monyoko.
