A Kruger National Park ranger has been airlifted to hospital after being gored by a buffalo. The incident happened on the Pretoriuskop section of the park.

The park’s spokesperson Ike Phaahla says two rangers were patrolling yesterday when a buffalo charged them from behind. The ranger managed to cling to the buffalo’s horns while his colleague put it down.

“One of our field rangers was seriously wounded by a buffalo while in a patrol in the Pretoriuskop section of the Kruger National Park. He was stabilized on the scene of the attack and he’s currently receiving medical attention at a health facility. Our prayers are with him, his colleague and family. The animal was destroyed by the other field ranger who was patrolling with him at the time”, says Phaahla

The injured ranger is described to be in a stable condition.
