The Woodview Ratepayers Association in Phoenix, north of Durban, and other stakeholders are opposing a housing development on Viewhaven Drive.

The Association’s Chairperson Theo Pillay says there had been no prior consultation between residents and the eThekwini Municipality regarding the development which is a Durban Metropolitan Open Space System area.

Pillay says the development is not in the best interest of the community. He is calling for a complete stop to the development.

“We want the council to tell us who are these guys and who is benefiting from this. In a general term, it looks like the rich are getting richer and there is no place for the poor. What we’re trying to establish is that, has there been an impact assessment done? The area that we are talking about now is very heavy on traffic. So, widening of the road needs to happen. We want to know, has all of this been done by the relevant department for the relevant go-ahead to take place? We don’t know,” adds Pillay.
