Motorists will get more relief at the fuel pumps this month, as prices are set to decrease from Wednesday, September 4.

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources has announced a fuel price decrease for the fourth consecutive month.

The retail price of petrol will drop by 92 cents a litre for both grades. The wholesale price of diesel is set to decline by 79 cents and diesel with lower sulphur will cost R1. 05 cents less. A litre of illuminating paraffin will decrease by over R1.

Department spokesperson Robert Maake explains the reasons behind the September fuel price drop.

“The reason for the decreases are the lower oil prices and stronger Rand against the US dollar during the period under review. The slate levy remains unchanged at 0 cents per litre on both petrol and diesel.”

This is the fourth month in succession where fuel prices have dropped. Over this period, the price of petrol has reduced by about R3, 44 cents a litre.
