Residents of Ward 33 in Ventersdorp in the North West are concerned about what they say are unhygienic living conditions.

Many of the residents, who reside in RDP houses, say the nearby sewer spillages have led to serious health and safety issues.

For two years the residents have petitioned the JB Marks Local Municipality to intervene, without success.

Residents allege their ward councillor has failed to highlight their challenges to local authorities.

”Our ward councillor doesn’t represent us. We have no service delivery in our community and waste materials are scattered throughout our ward. We receive no support from either the local or provincial authorities. It feels like our ward councillor allows these issues to persist. We’re pleading with our councillor to step in and help.”
