The South African National Civics Organisation (Sanco) has made a U-turn in its stance towards the Government of National Unity (GNU).

The body previously rejected the ANC’s move to include the Democratic Alliance in the GNU.

However, it has now welcomed the mix of parties sharing governance.

Sanco addressed the media on the outcomes of its National Executive Committee meeting in Boksburg, in Gauteng’s East Rand.

The organisation’s Secretary-General Mike Soko indicated that their change of heart around the GNU stems from how other parties had approached negotiations with the ANC.

He said this included the “arrogance” displayed by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) as well as the uMkhonto weSizwe’s legal squabbles with the ANC.

“There’s peace. We seek peace as Sanco,” said, adding the organisation welcomes the agreement by other political parties to work alongside the liberation movement.
