The South African Weather Service says people should brace themselves for a drop in temperatures from Sunday to Tuesday.  This comes as a 60% chance of rain is forecast for KwaZulu-Natal.

Forecaster Wiseman Dlamini says at the moment the forecast is for a slight possibility of snowfall on the mountain tops of the southern Drakensberg in the Harry Gwala district on Monday.

Last week, hundreds of road users were trapped in snow on the N3 at Van Reenens Pass between KZN and the Free State.

One person died of hypothermia after being trapped in the snow for two days. However, Dlamini says the snow will not be as heavy as the previous weekend.

“We’re expecting 50% showers and thundershowers over Eastern and Northern parts of the province otherwise 30% probability. The rain is expected to continue up to Monday and chances will be 60% on Monday and the rain will start to clear on Tuesday morning. And with regards to the snowfall, there is a very slight snowfall possibility over our extreme Drakensberg that is part of Harry Gwala district from Monday into Monday night.”
