The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) says support services are being offered to learners and the school community at the Overberg High School in Caledon in the Overberg District, following the discovery of a Grade 10 learner’s body in the school’s storeroom.

The learner was reported missing at a police station in Grabouw by her mother after she failed to arrive home from school last week.

Provincial Education Minister, David Maynier, says, “I visited the school to offer my condolences to the school and the district. Our department’s psychologists and social workers are working with other organisations to provide counselling support to learners and the broader community. I appeal to the media and the public to respect the privacy of the family, fellow learners and staff at this time.”
