SIU authorised to probe Transnet and other entities

President Cyril Ramaphosa has authorised the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to investigate allegations of serious maladministration within Transnet, the Gauteng Provincial Department of Human Settlement, the Umzumbe Local Municipality, and Free State’s Masilonyana Local Municipality.

The investigation will also include allegations of serious maladministration related to the reinstatement of Siyabonga Gama as Chief Executive Officer of Transnet Freight Rail in February 2011 and recover any financial losses suffered.

This covers allegations of unlawful and improper conduct that occurred between January 2007 to date as well as any related activities before or after this period.
