The National Department of Health says there is no need for the public to be concerned about the Mpox outbreak being declared a public health emergency.

This comes after the Africa Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Prevention declared the outbreak a public health emergency on the continent.

Health Department spokesperson, Foster Mohale says the situation in the country is under control.

He has however acknowledged that it can change anytime.

According to Mohale, the department will communicate as soon as it has discussed the implications of the announcement by the World Health Organisation and the CDC.

He has urged the public to remain vigilant.

“We are working with a number of stakeholders and the Border Management Authority. They are going to intensify the screening at the ports of entry, especially zoom into people who are coming from countries currently battling the outbreak of this infectious disease,” he says.

Mohale adds the department is also working with several other stakeholders to ensure the outbreak is kept under control.
