Cellphone analyst and investigation officer Colonel Lambertus Steyn says he doesn’t have proof that the number he had previously told the court belonged to accused 5, Fisokuhle Ntuli, was in fact his.

He says he relied solely on the information he received from investigation officer, Brigadier Bongani Gininda that the number was being used by Ntuli.

He has conceded that the number was not registered under Ntuli, only saying that according to the information he received Ntuli was using it.

Mshololo: Can you tell this court with certainty that the number was RICAd under accused 5’s name and to which address?

Steyn: It was not RICAd under his name. It was RICAd but definitely not his name.

Mshololo: And the address?

Steyn: I am not sure about the address. But what I am sure about is that it wasn’t his name.

Mshololo: So, if it was RICAd under someone else’s name, how do you say it was used by Mr Ntuli?

Steyn: As I say, I did receive information from the investigation team that the number was used by Mr Ntuli.

Asked where he had received the information he said, “Brigadier Gininda.”

According to Steyn, the alleged number was in contact with a number registered under Kelly Khumalo on the 2nd of August as well as on the 15th of October – 11 days before the former Bafana Bafana captain was shot and killed.

Only thereafter was communication between a number belonging to Kelly Khumalo and one belonging to accused 1, Muzi Sibiya established.

Steyn has told the court that he cannot from his own investigation say if there was any conspiracy to commit a crime by Ntuli and Kelly.

Earlier on Monday morning, Sibiya denied the number Steyn mentioned belonged to him.

Accused 2, Bongani Ntanzi confirmed that the number was his, RICAd under his name, but that, he says, was only done in 2019 in Rustenburg and that in 2014 he didn’t have that number.

The trial will continue tomorrow when Adv Mshololo is expected to conclude her cross-examination.
