Mamelodi Sundowns needed 120 minutes to overcome a resilient Polokwane City 1-0 to advance to the semi-finals of the MTN-8. The home side was unlucky with Namibian Peter Shalulile denied by the post on two occasions early in the first half.

It was still goalless at half-time.

Then the game took a dramatic turn when Dennis Onyango was shown a red card for handling the ball outside the danger area eight minutes before regulation time.

Defender Musa Lebusa replaced Onyango in the goals instead of reserve keeper Jody February.

February was only introduced at the beginning of extra-time.

It took an own goal by Thabang Matuludi to break the deadlock in the first half of extra-time.

February made a crucial save to deny Appolis seven minutes before the end of the match.

Sundowns will now host Stellenbosch FC in Pretoria, and the first semi-final, and defending champions Orlando Pirates will be away to Cape Town City in another semi-final.
