Suspect arrested for child’s murder in the Eastern Cape

A 32-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of an eight-year-old girl at Walmer township, in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape.

Taslin Lucas’ body was found burnt in a vandalised house last week.

Police spokesperson Priscilla Naidu says the man was found by the community and it is alleged he was assaulted before being taken to the police.

“A 32-year-old man was arrested this afternoon (Wednesday)  in Walmer for the alleged murder of 8 year old Taslin Lucas. It is alleged that at about 14:30, the community found the suspect at the 5th Avenue dumping site and assaulted him then a security vehicle stopped and intervened,” Naidu says.

“The man was taken to SAPS Walmer and detained for the murder of the child, the suspect is alleged to be the boyfriend of the deceased girl’s mother. Earlier, about a hundred people from Walmer mainly school children from Walmer location staged a peaceful March to the police station . The investigation is ongoing,” she says.
