A 26-year-old suspect has been arrested at Jabulani hostel in Soweto in connection with the murder of an e-hailing driver.
The incident happened in Berea in the Johannesburg CBD on Wednesday.
Joburg Metro Police Spokesperson Xolani Fihla says the suspect is being kept at Jabulani Police Station.
“During the arrest, an unlicensed firearm, a magazine and 10 live rounds of ammunition were seized from the suspect’s possession. The suspect has been detained at Jabulani SAPS and is currently facing charges related to the murder of the e-hailing driver. He is due to appear in court soon. The JMPD remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and visitors to Johannesburg. We commend the collaborative efforts of the JMPD unit and the SAPS Gauteng Tracking Team in bringing this dangerous individual to justice.”

Meanwhile, members of the Gauteng taxi industry have joined e-hailing officials in condemning acts of violence, intimidation and extortion in the sector.
They held a media briefing in Johannesburg in August in a bid to put operational issues and challenges relating to reported cases under the spotlight.
