Commuters in Nzhelele outside Louis Trichardt in Limpopo and surrounding areas have been left stranded after a protest by the Dzanani Taxi Association.

Taxi operators closed several parts of the R523 road that connects several villages to nearby towns.

It is alleged that one of the operators has been operating without a permit.

Provincial Transport Department spokesperson, Tidimalo Chuene says they will meet with the association on the matter.

Meanwhile, more than seventeen taxi associations halted operations on the KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast leaving thousands of commuters stranded.

Operators allege that the Public Transport Enforcement Unit – Operation Shanela is harassing them.

Disgruntled taxi operators say they will not operate until police release more than 30 minibuses impounded during the anti-crime initiative.
