Thabazimbi Municipality placed under administration

Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba says the troubled Thabazimbi Municipality faces financial liabilities.

It owes Eskom more than R270 million and more than R190 million to the Magalies Water Board.

The municipality has failed to pass the 2024/25 financial budget on time due to political infighting.

Ramathuba has announced after a special executive committee meeting in Polokwane, that Thabazimbi Municipality will be placed under administration.

Ramathuba says the municipality has collapsed.

“The municipality is currently operating with two separate structures claiming to be the council further investigating the governance crises.

The municipality faces substantial financial liabilities including a debt of over of over R270 million to Eskom and the ongoing legal proceeding initiated by Magalies Water Board to recover outstanding fees amounting to R190 million.”
