Thousands of maidens have arrived at Enyokeni Royal Palace in KwaNongoma to take part in the annual Reed Dance festival.

They are expected to hand over the reeds to King Misuzulu KaZwelithini during the day.

Asamkele Mnguni and Melokuhle Mncwabe, who are attending for the first time, say they are thrilled to be part of the event.

“I am here and we have arrived and it so nice and to see like older virgins being here and it is exciting. My messsage to all the people out there is that let’s restore our virginity.”

“I feel very excited and very welcomed because the people here are very nice and they are exciting, singing and dancing.”
