Three siblings die of suspected poisoning in Sebokeng

Three siblings from Evaton Primary School in Sebokeng, south of Johannesburg, have died from suspected poisoning.  The deaths are suspected to be poisoning.

The Gauteng Education Department has confirmed that the learners died on Monday after being taken to the sick bay at school.

The grade three, four and five learners had apparently eaten pap and biscuits and drank milk at home.

They were taken to a nearby clinic where they were declared dead.

Rat poison

On the same day, two learners at Tsakane Secondary School in Ekurhuleni ingested rat poison, the department says.

One died and the other was taken to a local medical facility.

The Department’s Spokesperson Steve Mabona says police are investigating both incidents.

Mabona says, “The MEC is really heartbroken by this incident and conveyed his condolences to the school community and the family. Our psycho support team will be dispersed to attend to both schools and our employees’ wellness will also be assisting just look at the employee part of things to support them accordingly.”
