The 65th Thuthuzela Care Centre countrywide for victims of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) is set to be opened at the Mitchell’s Plain Hospital on the Cape Flats on Monday.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel and National Director of Public Prosecutions Advocate Shamila Batohi are expected to officially launch the centre that will provide pre-trial services including psycho-social, medical and legal services to victims of GBV.
The establishment of the Thuthuzela Care Centres is a response to the urgent need for an integrated strategy for prevention, response and support for victims of violence, especially women.
