Donald Trump has selected James David Vance as his running mate for the upcoming US presidential election.

The announcement was made at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where both Trump and Vance were formally nominated.

Trump shared the news on the social media platform Truth Social, stating that after “lengthy deliberations and thought,” he determined that Vance was best suited for the role of Vice President.

Vance, initially an outspoken critic of Trump, has since emerged as a staunch supporter. He was seen on the convention floor with his wife, receiving welcoming chants of “J.D.!” from delegates.

If the ticket is successful in November, defeating incumbent President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris, Vance, at 39, would become the youngest Vice President in US history.

Trump’s VP selection was closely watched following the fallout with his former Vice President Mike Pence after efforts to overturn the 2020 election results failed.
