The Democratic Alliance (DA) in Tshwane says it remains confident that Cilliers Brink will survive the motion of no confidence, despite the party heading to court, in a bid to block a motion of no confidence against him set for tomorrow.

Brink’s lawyer filed papers in the High Court in Pretoria earlier today.

The motion brought forward by the African National Congress (ANC), is supported by ActionSA, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) and other minority parties.

In the court papers, Brink argues the motion is unlawful.

DA Tshwane Caucus spokesperson Kwena Moloto says the mayor is entitled to sufficient time to respond to the issue raised.

“We are confident, we believe that we still have a string coalition here in the City of Tshwane. We have not been told that any party has any intention of leaving thus far and so if we need to face a motion of no confidence we are confident that Cilliers Brink will remain the executive mayor.”
