The City of Tshwane’s emergency services have advised residents to be on alert for possible severe thunderstorms.

This comes after the South African Weather Services (SAWS) issued a warning of a cold snap that has brought heavy rains and strong winds to parts of Gauteng until on Monday.

Tshwane EMS spokesperson Charles Mabaso says, “[Take] the following safety precautions, if there is any fire danger exposure to dwellings, like shacks or houses, burning charcoal gives of deadly amounts of carbon monoxide.”

“So do not leave it in the house when sleeping, improper use of space heaters (izimbawula, braziers and electric, gas and paraffin heaters, among others) should be avoided. The above safety tips are not exhaustive and residents are encouraged to do everything they possibly can to stay safe.”
