Two ballistic experts are expected to be called to the witness stand when the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial resumes in the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria this morning.

Five men are on trial for the murder of the former Bafana Bafana captain.

Meyiwa was gunned down at the parental home of his girlfriend and singer Kelly Khumalo in Vosloorus, in south-eastern Johannesburg, in October 2014.

The two experts confirmed the findings of the ballistic analyst Chris Mangena, linking one of the accused Mthobisi Mncube to Meyiwa’s murder.

Mncube denied being in Vosloorus at the time of the murder and has also denied being the gunman who entered the Khumalo home.

The firearm said to be the murder weapon was allegedly confiscated from Mncube’s rental residence in 2015 while police were investigating him for a taxi violence-related case.

Ballistic expert Chris Mangena examined the firearm, fired test bullets and matched those to the exhibit bullet found at the Vosloorus crime scene.

Colonel Mangena testified he was positive it was the Meyiwa murder weapon.

The State then called Chief Forensic Analyst Edward Sereo who confirmed Colonel Mangena’s findings.

They also submitted affidavits of two other ballistic experts, however, the defence was granted the request to cross-examine the two experts who are expected to take the stand when the trial resumes this morning.
