Two surfers have been rescued in rough seas between Fish Hoek and Millers Point in Cape Town.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, says one of the men was able to remain on the surf ski, but the other had fallen off and was in the water, hanging onto the back of the ski.

He added that the man in the water was severely hypothermic when rescuers got to him.

Lambinon says the rescue operation was hindered due to high waves.

The two men received medical treatment.

Meanwhile, with the recent adverse weather conditions, Lambinon previously urged residents along the coastline to remain on high alert when at sea.
