Unlawful firearms seized in Gugulethu, two arrested

Police in Cape Town have arrested two people in KTC near Gugulethu on the Cape Flats for the unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. Police spokesperson Malcolm Pojie says the suspects, a 39-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man, were arrested at different houses in the same area.

Pojie says specialised police units swooped on the houses after they received information that it was being used to store firearms and ammunition. Members commenced with a search of the house in the presence of a 39-year-old female occupant, an AK 47 assault rifle, a variety of R1 and AK 47 ammunition were discovered and seized.

Members pounced on another residence in the same area where they seized a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They subsequently arrested a 23-year-old male for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, both suspects will make their court appearances in the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on the mentioned charges.
