The Komani Wastewater treatment plant in the Eastern Cape has been vandalised by intruders who forcefully entered the plant on two occasions. The plant is being refurbished and the incidents of vandalism are disrupting the progress that has been made.

Chris Hani District Municipality spokesperson, Bulelwa Ganyaza says, “Three men are seen on the CCTV footage inside the premises. Important electrical components were stolen and vandalised during these incidents. The district is currently assessing the cost of the damage incurred. Theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure is a serious cause for concern for the district municipality as these criminal acts threaten service delivery. With every incident, the functionality of essential infrastructure that is key for service delivery is negatively affected.”
