Musician, director and veteran actor Timmy Kwebulana has died. The family released a statement confirming that Kwebulana died on Thursday evening after a short illness.

The 83-year-old actor starred in shows like Velaphi, Uthando Lwethu, Shooting Stars, Forced Love, Isikizi and Homecoming.

Social media users have expressed their shock and dismay following Kwebulana’s passing.

The family says they wish to see Kwebulana’s legacy inspire everyone and future generations.

“It is with sadness that the Kwebulana family officially announces the passing of long-time musician, actor and director, Mr Timmy Kwebulana, on the evening of September 19 after a short illness. We give thanks for his life and all his contributions to us as a family and the arts and entertainment industry for almost six decades,” reads a family statement.

The family has requested privacy as they gather and organise logistics and a way forward.

“We do request, especially from the media and our industry colleagues, that the family is given some time to gather and organise logistics and a way forward.”

Kwebulana’s passing comes as the South African entertainment industry is still reeling from the deaths of two veteran actors Darlington Michaels and Sello Motloung passing.
