Vision 2040 to improve conservation efforts for future: SANParks

The Environmental Affairs Department has announced the South African National Parks (SANParks) Vision 2040.

The initiative aims to improve conservation by working with communities and other stakeholders, including through the use of technology.

Some of the targets of the 15-year plan include building climate resilience in communities around parks as well as creating employment in economically depressed rural areas.

SANParks Chairperson Pam Yako says there are many targets SANParks could be a part of.

“Whether you are talking water, to improve our water provisions on the security point of view. We need to make sure that we bring women on board. Also, from a reversal of biodiversity and addressing climate change. We must take necessary steps towards that.”
