We are watching developments unfold in Beirut with great alarm: UN

Israeli fighter jets have attacked Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including weapons launchers and weapons storage sites, the military said on Friday, hours after it announced a strike against Hezbollah’s command centre in Beirut.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric emphasised the global body’s concern at the developments during a press briefing.

“We are watching the developments unfold in Beirut with great alarm,” said Dujarric.

“These actions put both the Lebanese and the Israeli population at risk, as well as threatening regional security and stability.”

Dujarric asked for patience as the UN gathered more information.

“Anyone who looks at the pictures and smoke billowing from a densely populated area should be alarmed, to say the least,” he said.
