Cold conditions expected in some parts of the country

The Weather Service has warned of cold conditions, snow, strong winds and disruptive rains this weekend for some parts of the Northern, Eastern and Western Cape.

In the Northern Cape, the Namaqua towns that include Alexander Bay will be severely impacted. Residents are warned of damaging winds, rains and flooding on some roads.

Fishermen using the Atlantic Ocean around Alexander Bay are warned to avoid the sea with strong winds predicted which will make navigation difficult.

The Weather Service’s senior forecaster Luthando Masinini says, “Snow is predicted for some parts of the Northern Cape. The third warning is yellow level three for damaging interior winds that will lead to possible driving difficulty, especially over the major roads in the Southern high grounds of Namaqua in the Northern Cape, the City of Cape Town and Central Karoo. The warning is strong winds at sea that will lead to difficulty with navigation, this will be over Alexander Bay coast.”
